This photograph is the first correctly exposed photo of a solar eclipse using the daguerreotype process. This process included exposing a sheet of copper coated with silver to light. I like this image because it is so striking for the time it was taken and can now be interpreted in an artistic way.
Looks like your course is quite comprehensive if you're doing the history of photography. It's all about the visual image. X.
