Photography Timeline- 1870s

This photograph is a carbon print, taken with the intention of documenting London before it disappears or changes. Carbon printing is a very long and complicated process using gelatine and negatives. I think this photograph is powerful because of both the subject and process- the photographer went to such trouble to preserve this part of London, even though it is only through a photograph.
