With my final piece finished, I started on marketing for my game idea.
I decided that the best way to advertise my game would be through social media in order to reach the correct target audience, so I started by creating a base poster to adapt later.
For my poster, I really wanted to pay homage to the original painting within its composition, and I started by figuring out what my background should include. The original had the sky, clouds, the ocean and a small wall visible, so I adapted these elements to fit my game a little better. To make them fit better, I made the sky a night sky full of stars, kept the clouds, kept the ocean, and made the wall look a lot more rugged and less pristine.
For Solis herself, I had wanted to ask my friend Arren to help take pictures of me for pose reference, however I decided that to truly know whether I liked the pose or not, I needed to take the pictures, so I took some of him instead. Big thanks to Arren for standing with a ruler and a bag of snacks for this - they were my closest props. I'm sorry if it was awkward, I hope you enjoyed the snacks afterwards.

Due to not having any proper studio space at the time, I wasn't able to play around with lighting like I had wanted, but I felt that I had learned enough during the lighting workshop that I would be able to figure out the lighting in my poster on my own.
Of the poses we tried out, I decided that I liked the last one the best because it would show one of the unique items of the game and allow me to really play with the lighting.
With all of that in mind, this is what I drew. I used Procreate for this.

I really like this piece - I am super proud of the way I did the lighting. I love the way it hits her chestplate and face. I learned from the game menu, and I added in that little shadow behind the game title. It may be subtle, but it looked odd without it.
I do think that I should do more in depth studies of the ocean in future though, as I feel it may be the weakest part of the poster.
As for the actual social media campaign, I decided that the best platforms to advertise on would be Instagram and Youtube. Instagram because it has typically younger users than a site like Facebook, therefore more of my target audience would see it. Youtube was my other choice because of how popular gameplay videos are on there - their personalised ads would send my advert straight to the people who would be most likely to buy the game.
I did a couple of mock ups for these sites, reshuffling the poster to look better with the different size requirements.
The first is for Instagram, the second is for Youtube.

Solis is looking great, love the lighting. Background fits well too.
