Rotoscoping- Teapot

Believe me when I say that rotoscoping is difficult. This was one of the things I looked forward to the most during the first project of the course, as this is one of my areas of interest in general. What I didn't anticipate however, was the difficulty of the task.

I chose this short clip of a walking teapot walking toward my dad so that he could pat it's 'head' at a Steampunk event from over a year ago. Looking back, I wish I had cut it shorter so that I had enough time to be more creative with it.

The software wasn't too hard to grasp, so the problem wasn't Photoshop. It was the Wacom tablet that presented the biggest problem for me. I use an XP-Pen tablet at home and have been using a tablet with a screen for nearly a year now- the Wacom had no screen and was a lot smaller than what I am used to. It took me half of the day to get to the point where I felt confident enough with the tablet to draw smoother lines. You can actually watch me get used to the tablet throughout the video through the smoothness of the lines.

While I am very happy with the end result, I wish I could have finished it. I was 7 frames away from finishing the animation- I had an issue to do with my disability during the last half an hour or so, which led to me not having as much time to finish in. I would have finished if it hadn't been for this.

All in all, I enjoyed making this very much. I'm sure I will be seeing teapots in my sleep for the next few days. If I had the chance to do this again, I would choose a shorter, more simplified video so that I could spend my time being creative, rather than drawing a hand and a teapot over and over again for hours on end.
