Picture House - The Development Of My Idea

With my wish to turn my piece into something that does not represent the World Wars the way the painting does at the forefront of my mind, I started to jot down words that came to my head.

I started down the line of recreating the painting, but have it be the complete opposite as to not link to war. What would be important for me to keep in mind if I were to do this?

As I was looking at the the painting off to one side at the time, my notes did end up being a little scrawled, so I apologise if they're a little difficult to read. It was more an exercise in getting my thoughts to keep flowing onto the page rather than writing a solid plan; I felt that it might be interesting for others to see how my mind processed the task at the time.

As I kept writing, my idea for my piece became slowly clearer. Instead of simply creating the inverse of the original painting, I gradually realised that I could turn the project into a character concept design project. Since I came to UCA I have been wanting to move onto a Game Art/Concept Art route, so this was the perfect time to show everyone, especially myself, what I could achieve with such a broad prompt.

I decided that to keep in line with the project's criteria, I should create the environment that my character would reside in. Video Games are a form of moving image, therefore if I were to come up with a game's story and concept to go with my character, then my final piece would work perfectly. These notes show the beginning of that idea forming and how games I myself had played influenced the choices I made.

In summary, I figured out how to keep my initial idea of creating the inverse of the painting, and how I can take that idea forward into the concept for an open world, exploration heavy game with a main quest to be completed by the player, playing as the character I would design.

Wow, that's a lot of planning. Liking the games idea. What next?
