Task 1 - Portrait

With Task 1 of my summer project, I practised filling the format of an image and played around a lot with different types of lighting.

For the first block of images, I filled the format with the back's of peoples' heads. I liked it when they were lit from underneath both in front and behind the subject- the strength of light in one spot of the image and the absence of it in the rest is quite striking. I like the balance of negative space in these images.

I then filled the format of the images with a rather unusual subject- the right ear. It was interesting to work without negative space in these images, but I do prefer at least a little negative space in most of my photographs.

I absolutely loved taking these pictures. Angling the light and varying the amount of light in each image was fascinating to me- it was incredible to see how much a small change in either or both could change the whole tone of the image. These were my favourite shots.

I am not usually one to take selfies, so this task was the most difficult to me. It is so different taking photos of one's self in comparison to taking photos of others. I actually did end up enjoying taking these photos surprisingly, since it was so interesting to see the difference in style to the rest of the task, simply because I used a selfie mode camera instead of a traditional camera.

Great combination of images, I love the effects you have achieved with the light.
